THOUGHTS ON SETTING GOALS FOR 2024

Over all of our married life, Denise and I have set goals for ourselves and with our three sons; I think we did drive them nuts at times.

We have kept this practice up and every New Years for the past 25 years have met with a couple on New Year’s Eve, over a great dinner and the four of us have reflected back at the goals we set last year and discuss questions for the coming year. We have notes for these past 25 years and it is very intriguing to look back and see how much has been achieved.

I want to share with you, our questions for 2024, in case you are looking to set some intentions for the year ahead as well.

1) Write 3 things that you are most grateful for in 2023.

      • What were 1 or 2 of your struggles/hurdles?

2) If you were to make a checklist of items you would like to see accomplished over this coming year, what would the list look like?

3) When you think about the word “different,” what do you want to be different in 2024?

      • Explain what each point is and this question may connect with #2

4) When you think about having fun, what does that look like as we age?

5) This is not meant to be morbid, however, we do need to be thinking about it. Saint Benedict had this rule for the monks he served. “Remember to keep death before your eyes daily.”

      • As you reflect on this, what are your thoughts to prepare for this event?

      • What are your thoughts about what you would like your legacy to be?
